When the restructuring process began, priests were told there would be a conversation about the future of parish life. As the meetings unfolded, it became clear that restructuring was already assumed. Priests were shown three models — each involving consolidation or shared governance — and asked to choose among them. The option to keep parishes operating as they currently do was not included. Some priests raised concerns about the missing alternative, but they were still required to select one of the three models. Those selections later shaped the archdiocese’s recommended direction, even though “stay as we are” was never part of the process.

The parish survey now follows the same pattern. Every question asks you to evaluate Model A, Model B, or Model C. All three assume that restructuring will occur. The survey does not ask whether restructuring is necessary, nor does it offer “keep our parish as it is” as an option. For parishioners who value their current parish structure, this can make it difficult to feel fully represented. If none of the three models reflect your view, you are not required to rank them — you can simply use the comment boxes to share your perspective.

It is also important to understand that even if your own parish appears “unchanged” in a model, it will still be affected. When neighboring parishes are consolidated, their people, ministries, and needs are absorbed into the remaining parishes. This places new demands on staffing, scheduling, resources, and Mass availability. In practice, no parish comes through the process untouched.

For that reason, many parishioners are choosing to use the comment sections to express viewpoints that do not fit neatly within the three proposed models. If you believe another approach deserves consideration, you can respectfully say so. The survey is not limited to selecting a preferred model; it is also an opportunity to share your thoughts, concerns, and hopes for the future of your parish community.

Comments such as these can communicate that perspective clearly and respectfully:

• "It's difficult to evaluate these models without also considering the option of maintaining our current parish structure."
• "I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss whether restructuring is necessary before comparing different restructuring models."
• "An alternative worth considering would be keeping our parish as it is while addressing challenges locally as real issues arise."
• "I see similarities among the three models and would like to see additional options explored."
• "It is difficult to rank the choices when the option I would prefer is not included."
• "Suppressing Masses and limiting the Eucharist are not alternatives when most parishes are viable"

These kinds of responses acknowledge the survey while also communicating that you may view the issue differently. Whether you support one of the proposed models or prefer another path, the most important thing is that your feedback reflects your genuine perspective. The survey is an opportunity to make your voice heard and to contribute thoughtfully to the conversation about the future of parish life.
